The Iranian health ministry announced Sunday that 49 more deaths occurred due to the coronavirus. Kianoush Jahanpour, a health ministry spokesperson, announced that “at least 194 of our compatriots who fell sick with the COVID-19 illness have passed away.” Jahanpour also stated in the televised new conference that 743 new cases of the virus were confirmed in the last 24 hours. Each of Iran’s 31 provinces have confirmed cases of COVID-19, with the capital of Tehran confirming 1,805 people ill, the highest number of cases of all the provinces. Iran now has 6,566 confirmed cases.
Iranian schools and universities are closed until the end of the Persian New Year, Nowruz, which occurs in early April. Iran Air has canceled flights to Europe and 15 provinces are under travel restrictions.
