California Governor Gavin Newsom issued a stay at home order late Thursday, March 19. The order will remain in place until further notice. Under the order approximately 40 million people in California must stay in their homes and all non-essential businesses must close. The following essential services will remain available:
- Law enforcement
- Offices that provide local government services and programs
- Banks
- Pharmacies
- Gas stations
- Grocery and convenience stores, delivery and take-out restaurants, food banks, farmers markets
- Laundromats
California is the first to issue a statewide order since the coronavirus spread began.
